World Day of Peace Message 2007

The Harvest of Justice is Sown in Peace
Ten years after The Challenge of Peace, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops renews the call to peacemaking in a dramatically different world. The "challenge of peace" today is different, but no less urgent. Although the nuclear threat is not as imminent, international injustice, bloody regional wars and a lethal conventional arms trade are continuing signs that the world is still marked by pervasive violence and conflict. Among the major challenges peacemakers face in this new era are the human toll of violence and the illusion and moral  danger of isolationism. This new era calls for structures of solidarity, peacemaking institutions, and vocations of peacemaking.

Pax Christi USA strives to create a world that reflects the Peace of Christ by exploring, articulating, and witnessing to the call of Christian nonviolence. This work begins in personal life and extends to communities of reflection and action to transform structures of society. Pax Christi USA rejects war, preparations for war, and every form of violence and domination. It advocates primacy of conscience, economic and social justice, and respect for creation.

Catholic Peace Fellowship
CPF supports Catholic conscientious objectors through education, counseling, and advocacy. Guided by a personalist philosophy, the CPF seeks to resist war by helping those who choose not to participate in it, one person at a time.

SOA Watch is an independent organization that seeks to close the US Army School of the Americas, under whatever name it is called, through vigils and fasts, demonstrations and nonviolent protest, as well as media and legislative work.

 The Peacemakers Speak
The statements of the18 of the living Nobel Peace Prize winner on issues of war and peace reveal that these Nobel Peace Prize Laureates ask themselves the same questions we ask ourselves. The conversations with these men and women, aptly described as "our most precious of human resources," bring a range of wisdom and experience to the discussion of these issues that is not available elsewhere.
