Sacraments

Sacrament of Baptism
Baptism is the sacrament of new life in Christ. Baptism cleanses the soul of all sin and gives sanctifying grace. Through baptism, a person becomes one with Christ and enters membership with the people of God.

Baptisms take place during the Sunday liturgies. The celebration of infant baptism ordinarily takes place on Sundays during mass or following mass. Parents are asked to contact the pastor to set up a meeting to prepare for the sacrament and to set the date. Baptism for children (ages 7 and up) and adults occurs at the Easter Vigil. Formation of parents and godparents is important. Contact the office for more information.

Sacrament of Eucharist

The Sacrament of the Eucharist is a prayer of Thanksgiving through which Christ becomes present to nourish the faithful. The Eucharist unites the faith community with Christ, strengthens its commitment to God, and renews its resolve to serve the Lord.
The mass schedule at Sts. Joseph and Paul is M-F at 5:30 p.m., Sat. at 4:30 p.m., and Sun. at 7:30, 9:00, and 10:30 a.m. Hispanic Mass is celebrated at 12 noon Sun. We celebrate First Eucharist on a Sunday during April or May each year with children in the 2nd grade.

Sacrament of Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation brings reconciliation with God, restoration of grace, reconciliation with the Church, forgiveness of  sin, pardon, peace, and increased  spiritual strength.

Reconciliation  is celebrated communally at Sts. Joseph and Paul during Advent and Lent. Reconciliation is also scheduled Mon. and Thurs. at 6 p.m. First Reconciliation is celebrated during Advent.

Sacrament of Confirmation

Confirmation strengthens the commitment to Christ made at baptism by sealing the newly confirmed with the Holy Spirit. Confirmation enables the faithful to face the daily challenges of life with Christian witness. This sacrament is celebrated in the 7th or 8th grade or at the  Easter Vigil.

Sacrament of Marriage
In the Sacrament of Marriage, a man and woman share life, love, and Christian faith with each other and with God.

Couples who wish to enter into the Sacrament of Marriage should contact the pastor,  Fr. Carl Mc Carthy, 6 months in advance for preparation and formation.  Couples must attend Engaged Encounter or the Sponsor Couple Program. Click picture for more images of the Sacrament of Marriage.

Sacrament of Anointing the Sick

Anointing with blessed oil and prayers brings Christ to the seriously ill or dying. Christ's comforting grace strengthens the soul through forgiveness of sin.
Anointing of the Sick is celebrated communally 2-3 times per year and upon request at any time. Anyone who is ill or infirmed may request the anointing by calling the parish office.

Sacrament of Holy Orders

The Sacrament of Holy Orders consecrates Christians in service to God. These servants of the Church are blessed with spiritual power and grace that enable them to proclaim the message of God's love, to lead and govern the Christian community, and to reach out in service to the world.
For more information about the Sacrament of Holy Orders, contact Fr. Carl McCarthy.
