1. Opening prayer led by Carol
Alvey
2. Minutes from September 4
meeting were approved.
3. The Continuing Education
presentation was postponed to the next meeting.
4. We welcomed our new Director
of Stewardship – Alan Sims. Alan introduced himself and gave a synopsis of
his background. Everyone welcomed Alan to the parish and we believe he
will be a great asset to Sts. Joseph & Paul.
5. Old Business
A. Liturgical Schedule
Commission update
Due to the illness of Fr. Carl (who is much better), hiring of the
Director of Stewardship, and search for Director of Music and Liturgy,
this has been put in the background for the time being. There was a survey
of the parish last weekend to determine what the parishioners wanted in
regards to an extra Christmas liturgy. The parish decided it wants to add
a 7 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass.
B. Joint Meeting of Committees
It was determined that the best format for this would be more of a
workshop and time of prayer. It would focus on how to run a meeting, how
to best use the meeting time, how to write minutes, etc. The Stewardship
Committee is being asked to take this idea and put together the details.
C. Director of Liturgy and Music
James Warren has agreed to provide weekend music through Christmas. Sharon
Hudson will provide music for funerals when her schedule permits. Others
are filling in the various components until a director is hired. There are
no current candidates; however, the job description is written and the
procedure is in place for when a candidate becomes available. The job is
being advertised nationally. Alan will be making contacts in the area to
assist in finding the right person.
D. Night Under the Stars
The event will be held after Mass on November 17. This will be a
semi-formal evening with music, food and entertainment. The focus of the
evening is to thank the many people in the parish who give their time and
talent to help us spread the Kingdom of God.
6. New business
A. Open Parish Meeting
Again, with so much going on, it was decided by the council to postpone
this event until possibly after Easter. The staff will come up with
suggestions for a specific date and time. This will be brought to the
council at the next meeting.
B. Birthright Building
Birthright has notified us that they intend to vacate the building in
early 2008. We are looking into ways to use this facility, including
making it a youth center and possibly a nursery that will be used during
Masses. The Building and Grounds Committee is asked to look into the
structural soundness of the building. We will continue to discuss options
once it is determined if the building can be used safely.
7. Tony summarized the meeting.
8. Committee Reports were tabled
due to time. In specific, the following committees asked the council for:
Finance – prayer
Youth – prayer
Education – prayer
Social Justice – out building for Good Samaritan Home
Stewardship – Bread bakers, volunteers
Family Life – a time when they can hand out a survey in regards to Family
Life. Also, help with landscaping that will be held on October 20 at the
Good Samaritan Home. Volunteers, money and materials will be requested in
the bulletin.
9. The parish is looking into
being a part of the Daviess County “Trash for Cash” program. The county is
offering groups $200 to clean up one mile. We are looking into cleaning
five miles for a total of $1,000. This money will be split between the
Good Samaritan Home and the St. Benedict Homeless Shelter.
10. Fr. Carl closed the meeting
with prayer.
11. Laura Baker will lead the
opening prayer at the next meeting.
12. Tony Kraus will lead the
continuing education presentation.
13. Meeting adjourned at 8:10
p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
John Little – Council Secretary
