4. Old Business

A. Open Parish meeting – April 27 was set as the date. It will include a potluck. Further discussion on this gathering will take place at our January meeting.

B. Night Under the Stars – November 17. Currently 148 have signed up. Council members will give a brief invitation at the Masses this weekend.

C. Director of Liturgy and Music update – We currently have two resumes in hand and expect at least one more. The council reiterated that we want a quality person and we need to have patience. Fr. Carl will write an update on the topic for the bulletin and will also speak on the issue at weekend Masses. The council wanted to thank all of the volunteers who have taken roles in providing outstanding music at our Masses during this interim period. We need to continue to encourage and thank them.

D. Joint Committee meeting – will take place at our regular council meeting time – Monday, December 3. Fr. Darrell Venters will be here to lead the discussion. All committee members are highly encouraged to attend. It will be an evening of “Prayer and How To’s of a Parish Committee.” The social will begin at 6:15 in the parish hall (council members will host and will bring a dish). It will conclude at 8 p.m.

E. Birthright building update – Ron and Alan looked over the building recently and said it was structurally sound for use by the youth groups.

F. Christmas Mass schedule – the recent poll showed the following Mass preference among the people – Christmas Eve: 4:30, 7 and 10 p.m.; Christmas Day: 9 and noon.

5. New Business

A. Adopt a Highway – the county’s funds have run out for this program for the current season. They anticipate offering it again in the spring. Alan will keep in contact with the county and we hope to participate next time. This will raise funds and also help us be good stewards of the environment.

B. Stewardship of the Environment – review of the document from the Catholic bishops regarding global climate change – tabled until January council meeting.

C. Catholic School Subsidy – our subsidy for Catholic schools has not kept up with parish growth the last several years. At this time, the schools are requesting a 38.88 percent increase ($52,257.97) beginning the next school year. This will continue to be discussed at the Finance Committee, Stewardship Committee and Parish Council.

D. Diocesan Capital Campaign – the diocese is requesting $273,210 over a five year period. One of the options the diocese is offering is delaying the campaign in our parish to raise these funds for three years and then having three years to raise the money. This was the council’s recommendation. Fr. Carl will take this to the bishop. The priests will also be discussing this topic at their next gathering. Fr. Carl will bring the results to our January meeting.

6. Tony gave a summary of the meeting.

7. Fr. Carl closed the meeting with prayer.

8. Prayer leader and continuing education leader – TBA

9. Next meeting – joint committee gathering – December 3 at 6:15 in the parish hall.

10. Next regular council meeting – Monday, January 7, 2008 in the parish office.

11 Meeting adjourned at 8:23 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
John Little – Council Secretary
