1.  Opening prayer led by Ron Greene

2.  Minutes from Oct. 2 meeting were approved.

3. Welcome of Laura Baker to the Parish Council. Laura will represent the youth in our parish and will replace Hal Mischel on the council who recently submitted his resignation.

4. Welcome of Mark Baehl who is returning to the parish as Director of Liturgy.

5.  Tom Hayden reviewed pages 12-14 of the Diocesan Guidelines for Parish Pastoral Councils. We will continue to review portions of this document at future meetings.

6.  Committee Reports (Note: committee reports were submitted in writing and only highlights were brought before the Council):

A.  Mark Baehl – Sacred Liturgy

  • The Sacred Liturgy Committee and the Art & Environment Committee are now meeting separately.  The Art & Environment Committee is actually a sub-committee of Sacred Liturgy.  At this time, Ron Greene will be the Council’s liaison for both.
  • The ministry formation guidelines were finalized (parish training held Nov. 5 & 10). Changes will take place the first weekend of Advent.
  • A study is currently underway concerning the placement of the baptismal font. Church documents say the font should remain in one place. At this time, the font is moved for various occasions. A recommendation for permanent placement should come in the near future.

B.  Mark Baehl – Art & Environment

  • Preparations are taking place for upcoming feast days and the Advent/ Christmas season. Church documents are also being studied regarding the correct shade of purple for Advent and new fabric is being purchased.

C. Ron Greene and Rick Rhodes - Building and Grounds

  • A “Good Samaritan Home team” has been assembled. Progress on the home is still very good. The drywall has been hung and a drywall professional will finish this part of the project.
  • The dedication date has been moved back. Hopefully a final date can be set when the committee meets in December.
  • Plans for the parish hall construction continue to take place.  This includes laying out the kitchen and restrooms. They are also looking at various options for flooring. Additional windows are being added from the original plan.
  • One long term goal for the committee is building a St. Joseph Monument. This will include the opportunity for parishioners (or anyone) to purchase bricks in memory or in honor of a loved one. More information will be forthcoming.
  • Fr. Carl mentioned that the rectory porch is sinking and the gutter is holding water.  They are looking at options for fixing these problems.
  • There is a moisture problem in the church which is causing some peeling of the new paint. No one is at fault – it is due to the way the church was originally constructed. They are looking at options for fixing this problem No major expenditure of funds is expected.

 D.  Rick Rhodes - Stewardship

  • The committee is still looking at various fundraising options.
  • There are plans to get children involved in stewardship so they will learn the importance of giving time, talent and treasure early in life.
  • A letter was sent out asking for three extra dollars (weekly) from each family to their capital campaign commitment. At this time, 160 letters have been returned.

E.  Carol Alvey - Centro Latino

  • There is hope for having a Hispanic Cursillo weekend; however, at this time, no one is able to attend the necessary four day training session. They will continue to work on this issue.
  • They are looking at the possibility of establishing a parish soccer team.
  • Fr. Carl and Fr. Ray are working together to print a Holy Card of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This would include Mass times on the back of the card.

F. Pete Johnson – Social Justice

  • There is still need for help with the Good Samaritan Home. This will especially be true when they begin painting.
  • Volunteers are needed for the St. Benedict Homeless Shelter which is scheduled to open Dec. 1. They are working on getting the permits from the city to operate this facility.
  • On Dec. 2, a beans and rice dinner will be held after the 4:30 Mass. Donations will be requested (asking the same amount that families would usually spend for dinner on Saturday night). This money will be sent to Mandeville.

G.  Ken Caselden – Youth Ministry

  • A resident of Newburgh (IN) purchased over 2,600 bricks from the parish. Members of the ChristTeen group helped on Nov. 4 to get these bricks together for delivery. They raised $1,325 for the parish and $265 for the ChristTeen group. Ken thanked all those who assisted.

. Old Business

Tony asked that the Ad Hoc Committee will be reconvened to look at the parish constitution regarding the attrition of members and elections.

8.  New Business

  • Rick and Fr. Carl proposed that the Stewardship Committee and Finance Committee become two separate entities.  The Council agreed. Rick said he wants 6-8 members on the Stewardship Committee. There are currently three members (excluding Rick) on Finance. This will remain the same. Mike Hagan will serve on both committees as the Council liaison.
  • Dinner for Six – TABLED
  • Block Party discussion – TABLED
  • If anyone has suggestions for the Diocesan Pastoral Council, please give them to Carol prior to Nov. 29.
  • We will continue to look at how committees are implementing the overall goals of the Parish Council. A committee will be assigned to make a presentation regarding this issue at every meeting. For the December meeting, Youth Ministry will make the presentation.
  • Q & A:

A question was brought up regarding funding for the choir to go to Rome. Fr. Carl said no parish funds would be used. Money will come from fundraisers, donations and personal funding.

9.  Debbie will lead opening prayer at the December meeting.

10. Pete will lead the discussion from the Diocesan Parish Council handbook at the December meeting (pages 17-20).

11.  Fr. Carl closed with prayer. Meeting adjourned at 8:29 p.m.

12. The next Council meeting will be held on Monday, December 4 in the Parish Office.

Respectfully submitted,

John Little – Council Secretary
