Minutes of Previous Parish Council Meeting

Parish Council Minutes

March 6, 2006

Meeting began at 6:35 p.m. in the Parish Hall.

Members present: Tony Kraus, Tom Hayden, John Little, Mike Hagan, Gene Hamilton, Debbie Luedke, Carol Alvey, Ron Greene, David Danhauer. Staff members present: Heather Hayden, Rick Rhodes, Fr. Brian.
Members absent
: John Wells, Pete Johnson, Hal Mischel.

1.  Opening prayer led by Tony Kraus.

2.  Minutes from February 6 meeting were approved. Motion made by Debbie Luedke, second by Gene Hamilton.

3.  A review was held of the diocesan booklet - Guidelines and Policies for Parish Pastoral Councils. Tony pointed out specific sections that relate to parish committees and recommended that each liaison read the section pertinent to his/her committee.

4.  A discussion was held regarding the nomination process for parish council members. There was some concern that the council is not reflective of the parish; i.e., only two females and 10 males. Also, there is not any Hispanic or African-American representation. It was generally concluded that we need clarity in the nomination process. This will be discussed again at the April meeting. An ad hoc committee may be formed at that time. All members were asked to think about how we can improve the process.

5.  Rick provided an update on the capital campaign extension. He said letters went out today (March 6). Three letters were sent: One for those who contributed at the last campaign asking for a two year extension of their commitment; one for those who were in the parish at that time, but did not contribute; and one for those who were not members of the parish when the campaign began. Rick said after four weeks, telephone calls will be made to those who do not respond.

6.  Ron provided an update on the Good Samaritan home. He said a permit was applied for at City Hall and he received approval this week from the city to begin building. Ron said the foundation will be completed by the end of March.

7.  A Welcome Social for new members of the parish will be held on March 12 at 5:30. A total of 32 parish council members and their families will attend.

8.  There will be a commissioning rite ceremony for all new members at the 4:30 Mass on March 18.  Following Mass, there will be a dinner to honor the previous council members in the parish hall. Current members and their spouses are invited to attend.

9.  The majority of next month’s meeting will entail discussion of goal-setting for the current council.  Members were asked to think about what they would like to see happen in both the short-term and long-term.

10.  Fr. Brian closed the meeting with a blessing. Meeting adjourned at 8:15.

11.  Tom Hayden will lead the opening prayer at the April meeting.

12.  Next meeting – Monday, April 3 at 6:30 in the parish hall.

Respectfully submitted,
John Little – Council Secretary
