Parish Council Minutes Meeting began at 6:30 p.m. in the Religious Education Center. Members present: Tony Kraus, Tom Hayden, John Little, Mike Hagan, Ron Greene, John Wells, Pete Johnson, Hal Mischel, Carol Alvey, David Danhauer, Debbie Luedke. Staff members present: Fr. Carl, Heather Hayden, Ken Caselden, Rick Rhodes. Guests: Sr. Fran Wilham, Claudia Sedillo. 1. Opening prayer led by Mike Hagan. 2. Minutes from July 3 meeting were approved. 3. We reviewed pages 4-9 of the Diocesan Guidelines for Parish Pastoral Councils. We will continue to review portions of this document at future meetings. 4. The Ad Hoc Committee’s recommendations were presented (see addendum 1). Additional comments included: (Youth Ministry) – Ken said a great event for middle school youth students was held last night (August 6). They had a very good turnout that included an evening of fun, food and faith. Ken also said the adult core team is working very well together. (Hispanic Ministry) – Sr. Fran and Claudia Sedillo spoke on Hispanic Ministry in the parish. They believe the Hispanic community feels welcomed at Sts. Joseph and Paul, but work still needs to be done. It was mentioned that the roots of our parish goes back to ministering to German immigrants. In our current time, we should continue to live out this mission by ministering to Hispanics in the area. It was suggested that members of the Parish Council should attend the Hispanic Mass in the near future (maybe a luncheon afterwards). 5. The Hispanic priest who was scheduled to come to the parish was reassigned at the last minute to the Paducah area. Fr. Ray Clark will continue to provide a Spanish Mass on Sundays. Fr. Ray has also requested that he take a larger role in the overall ministry of the parish. Fr. Carl welcomes this opportunity. This will include helping out with daily Masses, confessions, etc. ü Fr. Carl, Martha, Heather and Ken will attend the Diocesan Hispanic Board meeting on Aug. 29. ü Fr. Ken Milulcik, Fr. Carl and others will be making home visits to area Hispanics at the end of August. 6. After much discussion, the 2006-2007 budget was approved. The budget will continue to be reviewed and revised in upcoming months. 7. A Committee Report sheet was provided to each Parish Council member who serves as a committee liaison. This is to be filled out at each meeting and then brought back to the council meeting. 8. Effective immediately, the Fr. Tucker Center will be renamed the Religious Education Center. This change was precipitated by state and federal laws that prohibit those convicted of sexual abuse crimes from living within 1,000 feet of a building that teaches children. The name change will provide legal protection to our parish and our children. Signage with the name change will be put up tomorrow (Aug. 8). 9. Joan Frey, head of Catholics for Children, has requested a time where she can speak at all weekend Masses and request funds for the Opportunities for Life billboards. It was agreed that she be given this opportunity (Heather will pick an appropriate weekend) not only this year, but on a yearly basis. 10. Building update:
11. A social for Parish Council members and chairpersons of individual committees will be held after the 4:30 Mass on Saturday, Sept. 9. 12. Closing prayer led by Fr. Carl. 13. There will not be a council meeting in September. The next meeting will be Monday, October 2 at 6:30 in the Religious Education Center. 14. Meeting adjourned at 8:38
Respectfully submitted, John Little – Council Secretary
